5 stars Listening diary 7th February, 2021: Marillion - The Thieving Magpie (La Gazza Ladra) (neo-prog, 1988)

Although my vinyl edition only has half of the full performance of Misplaced Childhood, I had a lot of love for it as a teenager, and revisiting it has only reinforced this as one of my favourite ever live albums. It's a strong overview of Fish's time in the band, a sort of best-of album that closes out that era perfectly. It's so clear from this why Marillion were the biggest band of the neo-prog movement, as they matched the pompous prog with some fantastic post-punk influenced grit, particularly on the Fugazi tracks, and really were quite an engaging and intense live band.
