5 stars Deep Purple's 1972 japan tour, was originally scheduled for may, but ended up to be scheduled for august 15,16 and 17. "Made In Japan" is recorded mostly from the last night, when the band was at their absolute peak. Anyway, it starts off with "Highway Star", which is a fast early hard rock song with very nice soloing from both Jon and Ritchie. "Child In Time" is the song where ian screams for all he is worth. I's really an emotional song, even if i never figured out what the lyrics was all about. The jamming/soloing in mid-song is really, really tight. "Smoke On The Water" starts with Richie Blackmore that plays the riff wrong (he did it to be mean to ian gillan). Then it's just the regular song, exept from extended soloing in the end, really good! "The Mule" is actually my least favourite song from this album, but i love the riff and Ian Paice's drum solo is simply stunning! "Strange Kind Of Woman" is a blues song (about a true story, means ian gillan). It's also extreamly tight played, and Ian's/Ritchie's Vocal/Guitar Duel is really cool. Ian Gillan has an amazing voice and he reaches the exact notes of the guitar playing. "Lazy" starts with organ experimentation from jon lord. He blows up the speaker and plays around with Jimi Hendrix "Wild Thing", before the "Lazy" riff starts. Amazingly bluesy song, i love it! "Space Trucking" Closes the set, and clocks in at 19:54. it starts with some funky interplay before the original song starts. After that comes the "Freakout" part. If you have heard the 1970 live versions of "Mandrake Root", you'll understand. It also contains Gustav holst "The Planets: Jupiter" played by the organ, and the mid-section of "Fools", played by guitar. This album is unbeatable and absolutely a masterpiece!
