MAX WEBSTER

Being a Canadian teenager, growing up in Mississauga, just outside of Toronto, of course I have come across the album in my time. This album, being my favorite from the Max Webster discography, was an excellent debut album for Kim Mitchell and Co.

You just cannot go wrong with any of the tracks on the album. Sure some are stronger than others, but they all rock just as hard and the songwriting is absolutely superb. Anyone from Toronto would know that Kim Mitchell is now a DJ on Q107, a Toronto based radio station.

The opening track, 'Hangover', suits its name perfectly. The guitar feedback reminding how delirious you would be after a night of heavy drinking. Excellent riff here and as always great musicianship.

'Summer Turning Blue' is a nice slower tune, but when you really listen to the lyrics and sweet harmony, this is quite the stunning song. I also like the light melodic guitars.

'Toronto Tontos' is a song I have been showing my friends for quite some time. This song has the most hilarious lyrics and even some French lyrics as well. Aside from its quirky lyrics, as a musician, the song has an excellent 11/8 timing which seems to stick in my head for quite some time.

'Lily' is probably one of the more proggier tracks on the album. The album itself is not overly ultra prog, but it has many prog elements with a hard rocking pop feel. This song however, is the longest track on the album. This song is filled with great guitar and keyboards, and has many time changes throughout.

Overall this song has been in my collection for quite some time, and I'm sure it will be for quite some time. If you haven't listened to Max Webster yet, I highly recommend you listen to this, their debut, before any other albums.
