5 stars It's rare to have to many people agree on an album - but this one has been consistently branded as a masterpiece. I would like to add my voice to the chorus of approval. This album has all the elements of a great progressive rock recording - tight playing, lengthy instrumental interludes, whimsy and imagination in lyrics and composition, wide range of instruments including winds, Monty Pythonesque humor and CHOPS, CHOPS and more CHOPS! Overall, the composition is similar to symphonic progressive rock, but like most other Canterbury recordings, the main distinction is where symphonic prog leans more toward Classical music, Canterbury is similar, but leans more toward jazz. I think that Rotter's Club is a textbook example of a Canterbury album. PS - the femalke chorus is wonderful - is this where Eberhard Weber got his idea of using a female chorus, or is it the other way around? The sound is so similar!
