5 stars Terrific piece of avant-garde/progressive metal. One of my favorite all-time metal albums, sounds like a vaudvillian circus of metal, classical, and symphonic music. Lush keyboards abound throughout most songs, violin, cello, viola, and flute are added to several songs with excellent affect, some terrific guitar work by Carl August Tidemann (Winds, Tritonus), G. Wolf's enigmatic vocals and Vortex adding his chaotic, over the top vocals to a few songs. A great mindfuck of an album inspired by the works of Poe, Baudeliere, Svaeren, Wilde, and dedicated to the Perilous Quest of the faustian spirit. No one has ever come close to re-creating the magic of this album, and no one ever will.
