VALLEY OF THE GIANTS

Although the cover art and songs such as Westworld might lead the listener to expect some sort of Western-themed take on post-rock, Canadian supergroup Valley of the Giants are a bit more of a varied prospect than that. With members drawn from various bands in the Constellation stable, it's not surprising that the music should take in so many different moods and atmospheres, from the gentle indie rock of Westworld to the Scandinavian shaggy dog story of Whaling Tale (which outlasts its welcome just a little, but for the most part is an amusing enough interlude). On the whole, it's a successful enough experiment, though I don't think it's an outright classic of the subgenre.
