EXCAVATIONS OF THE MIND

An impressive work of these great young people, Excavations of the Mind presents us with a music that reminds us to the endless walls of this progressive labyrinth, with a modern touch that makes it cooler even for an aspiring in progressive rock. The secret to this peculiarity may be in the construction of the songs: Hand in hand with changes in the time signatures, displaced solos, unusual instruments and musical structures, and existential lyrics, is a well-defined line of harmony running along the tracks, as a conductive thread that guides us, even in the strangest passage influenced by a musical style, which can even be a style stigmatized by the majority. The complex first two songs, the suite 'Deep Chasm', divided into four parts, the long 'The Grey Legend', and the great song that names the album, give us immediately all the influences of the band, with passages that recall from King Crimson, Gentle Giant to Opeth and Pain of Salvation, but everything with a unique touch that each musician gives on each passages. A surprise came with Russian Wisdom, a mid-tempo song, with an intro that reminded me of something contemporary like Indie rock, idea that changes rapidly, showing a great diversity of ideas, as in the other lengthy songs, ideas that will from circus music, space rock, jazz, among others, all tied up strongly, even with such heterogeneity.
