IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING

What can be said about this album that the has not already been said in the mass of reviews above? Well, for one, I love Moonchild. All 12 minutes of it. If you think the improv section is aimless, you are not paying attention (which is understandable since much of it is very quiet). I think it is a beautiful and spontainious jam that fits into the album very well. It's not as good as the improvs on the Epitaph box, but still a good "in studio" improv. I first heard this album in 1991 on LP, and was not impressed initially. A friend of mine thought it was the best album ever, so I gave it more listens. While I still don't agree with his assessment, it is a classic and not to be missed by any prog fan. I don't consider it a masterpiece, but it is damn close. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned progressive rock began here. 4 1/2 stars for sure.
