CIVILIAN

GG's last album was another step further into the pop/rock direction of Giant for a Day, only the songs feel somewhat more polished and confident this time around though they still lack the very complex quirkiness from the bands glorious past - "Civilian" is closer to regular rock with a more modern feeling to it. The songs are for the most time quite solid and enjoyable, with 'Inside Out' being a standout track here, it's still a far cry from their 70-76 output although decent. This is not a recommended starting point to Gentle Giant at all, but if you like the band, this one may be enjoyable in spots if not the whole album. 3 stars.
