3 stars High speed guitars, high speed violins and lot's of chaos and all for the sake to set this bird on fire! This first line is an abstract of this review.

Fusion never has been my favourite progressive sub-genre, but in some cases I just got to try. This birds of fire sometimes reminds me of King Crimson, because of their sometimes majestic sounding, especially in the slower parts. In my opinion these parts are the best parts. Maybe, because they're the most subtle.

This brings forth my greatest negative point of this era of the Mahavishnu Orchestra: the most fast parts -and there are a lot of them- are not subtle at all and a bit chaotic. While I will not doubt the guitarskills of John Mclaughlin or the Violin skill of Jerry Goodman but if they batle each other for the speed trophy, they'll reach chaos. They seem to play just a bit faster then they can control. In the Vision of the Emerald Beyond the Mahavishnu Orchestra plays more tight and is therefor a bit better in my opinion.

I should advise some more subtlety and less speed for this band.

For now, 3,5 stars.
