4 stars One of the best ways to sample a group that you are unfamiliar with is to buy a "Greatest Hits" or "Anthology". The Best Of Argent An Anthology is a very good selection of ARGENT'S music from their first album "Argent" through to "Nexus".

Epic Records has appeared to released two different versions of this CD - same number of tracks but some differences in track listing. My version has as track number one, "School Girl" instead of "Hold Your Head Up", which appears as track number four. While "School Girl" is a catchy likeable rock /poptrack, it is definitely not of the same strength as the anthem-like "Hold Your Head Up" - which undoubtably was ARGENT"S biggest prog rock hit and most well-known track.

The remainder of the tracks are the same as in the latest release. with the exception of the last track "Tragedy", which on my version is "Keep on Rollin" a honky tonk rock n roll track by ROD ARGENT taken from the album "All Together Now".

Of the 8 tracks on this album my personal picks are "Thunder and Lightning" by RUSS BALLARD a founding member of ARGENT; "Hold Your Head Up" by ROD ARGENT and CHRIS WHITE (ex-ZOMBIE bassist) and "God Gave Rock and Roll To You" by RUSS BALLARD.

While this a great but brief introduction to ARGENT - this compilation could have included other noteworthy tracks such as "She's Not There" a good bridging track between the ZOMBIES and ARGENT. "The Coming of Kohoutek" and "Music of the Spheres" from ARGENT"S most prog rock album "Nexus" would have added a more progressive feel to this Anthology.

I recommend this album as great overview to the music of ARGENT and I recommend investigating individual albums for a more indepth journey through the ARGENT world of popular progressive rock. This is a 4 star effort.
