The Green Tank
2 stars Probably the most boring an irrelevant album in the Pink Floyd catalogue, More is the soundtrack to the film of the same name. It was hstily written and hastily recorded, and it shows. Most tracks are bland, most tracks are boring, most tracks have nothing to say.

Probably the only true saving grace for this album are Roger Waters' lyrics, brilliant as always. His lyrics always had a ephemeral quality to them, and this album is no exception.

There is no studio tickery, so extended keyboard/synthesizer solos, no spaceyness to it at all. This frame of musicianship would work beautifully 8 years later on their most brilliant album, Animals, but falls flat here.

The first track is Cirrus Minor, a slow, soundless song, and it's probably the worst opening to a Floyd album. The hard- rocking Nile Song comes too far into the album to make up for the slow start, and shows that David Gilmour should NOT scream when singing. The album slows once again with Crying Song, another uninspired and boring track courtesy of Mr. Waters.

The only redeeming quality of the album is the one two punch of Green is the Colour and Cymbaline, the former being a simultanously cheery and mellow tune with excellent guitar strumming from Gilmour and superb piano/keyboard work from Rick Wright. Cymbaline is simply the best track on the album, with the best lyrics on the album, and David Gilmour's great vocals, is truly the high point of the album.

But wherever there's a highpoint, a slide must start, and this slide is steep. This is probably one of the few forgettable albums by the Floyd, so unless you're a fan, save your money and get Animals instead.
