2 stars Although this compilation represents some of Van Der Graaf Generator's very best works of their first three Charisma releases it's not really necessary to pick up unless you're a newcomer to this band or a completionist. Personally, I would rather recommend getting these three albums separately since they all are excellent (notably "Pawn Hearts") instead of just getting a few songs from each on one CD. The two first tracks of 'Least We Can Do..' are present here, but none of the most malevolent ones, but you do get the menacing classics 'Killer' and 'Plague of Lighthouse Keeper's' for good measure. This band are known for their long and pondering songs and would justify the inclusion of only 7 tracks here; If you like this kind of music, however, it just leaves the listener starving for more, probably making this more suitable for people who can only take this band in smaller doses or with limited budget. 2.5/5. The three peculiar studio albums are still highly recommended.
