4 stars Recorded during the top their career, and Jan Akkerman was considered the next greatest guitarist virtuoso, Live at the Rainbow shows Focus at its best. The band plays really well of each other and it shows. The intricate and variative parts to the songs are far more "alive" than on the studio recordings, and often shows the playfullness of Thijs Van Leer. I heard Focus on the radio in my native Holland, but this was the first album I bought of the band, it was not till some five to eight years later that I purchased the other albums of the band, all receiving plenty of play. I recently bought Live at the Rainbow on CD, to hear it again really accentuated to me, that this is an essential Focus album, and gives us a better indication of quality and musicianship of two of Hollands top musicians.
