4 stars The followup to Tago Mago was mostly recorded in the wake of the success of the Spoon single, which is presented at the end of the running order to round off proceedings. The funds from that success were used to buy the band their own studio space, and to be honest much of the album seems to involve the band simply growing used to their new studio. The compositions explore similar territory to Tago Mago, but not to the depth or the level of accomplishment attained on that album - it's more like the band limbering up and trying out their different exercises before producing a full-blown album. Spoon is a pretty decent song though, as is Vitamin C, and the rest of the material is interesting enough. Three and a half stars.
