CRIME OF THE CENTURY

This is the one Supertramp album I like the most, essentially the best songs, the best sound, the best album. Other albums to come out later would never again have the same quality in my opinion. There are some good songs on Even in the Quietist Moments, and I still have that one. It was my father's collection actually. Crisis what Crisis was crap, and Breakfast in America was pretty bad too.

School: A cry out that school is dominated by boring facts and useless info. A blazing harmonica evolves into the singer's vocals and some kids screaming with some guitar. The song builds slowly twice, and then erupts into loud piano. Awesome song.

Bloody Well Right: The other main writer returns the last song with a keyboard and trumpet song. He sort of represents a bunch of schoolmasters returning the last song's plea. The guitar player in this is not nesseciarily very good, sort of more funky and emotional. But he's ok.

Hide in your shell: Beautiful song. The first main singer (sorry, I don't know thier names) is singing to a girl who must love him who suffers alienation. The song builds from solemn keyboard into some funny vocals from other singers. This repeats and then a great building part where he sings to her more and his pleading voice is great. Great song.

Asylum: What the reason this guy will be sent to an asylum is lost to me, but it's an ok song. These guys are the masters of building songs, and playing out different players in a sort of play of a song. Mostly piano. Some strings are added in too. Certainly not the best song, but ok.

Dreamer: The big hit of the era, also one of the best songs on the album. Another sort of keyboard and vocal dominated song. The two main singers build an explosion of back and forth singing that iis excellent.

Rudy: Goes on a long time with some decent piano and ok vocals, and some ok guitar.I listen to it because of the lyrics and picture of a sad and lonely man it paints.

If everyone were listening: Fairly weak song about a play perhaps, or TV. Sort of melacholy song. Decent, but not that great.

Crime of the Century: Title track, strange and foreboding. I beleive that it paints a sort of commentary that while contreversy and bad news always seems to show criminals, that in fact they are human and as human as all of us. Good song, keyboards and strings evolve after some interesting vocals and lyrics.

Supertramp was a more funky and jazz interpretation of prog rock. Sort of more like pop, but not completely. Fans of this band won't like me saying I think that this is their only complete masterpeice while other albums lacked this quality.
