2 stars The first album by Porcupine Tree I bought in 2001 or 2002 due to some glowing reviews I read at that time. Back than I thought it was kind ok, but couldn't understand all the hype around the album. Now many years later, lets give it another try.

The music on this album is atmospheric, slow and melancholic and I am afraid, slightly boring. Much softer than the PT albums which followed after that. But still better! Pink Floyd seemed to have still been some influence before Steve Wilson thought he had to do Metal albums. You get some taste of the heavy guitars on the long rack Russia on ice, like a kind of preview what PT would to become on later albums. The biggest problem with this album (and for me personally with everything SW sings on) are the vocals: typical Steve Wilson trade mark whiney " I am so depressed, I am going to cut my wrists" type of vocals.
