In this album we begin to see that this band are beginning to achieve greatness. Sadly, that greatness was to be all too brief, the lack of sold songs and therefore a centre of gravity, combined with the dangers of musical freedom being allowed to get away with too much, to go too far, finally doing the band in, even if the ghost version walked headless through the corridors for a while longer.
But for now, at the moment of this album's release, we have the glow of the promised land in our ears and eyes, and every time I hear this album, all these years on, I feel a mixture of excitment for that promise and sadness for its ultimate unfulfilment.
