Kingsnake
2 stars A difficult album. Because the times were changing, also the taste of the public was changing. Here the band tries to create some disco, tongue-in-cheek-rock songs, but still with the typical BJH-sound. Except for the absence of Woolly.

The band tried to record the album as a trio, but brought in Kevin MacAlea as a guest, who would continu to record and play with the band the coming years.

This album falls short on several grounds, but works on other grounds. Some songs (even Love on the Line and Rock 'n' Roll Lady) work remarkably well.

But there are a few songs that (although they are tongue-in cheek) are really awfull to me (Skin Flicks and Get Down and Boogie). But Capricorn, The Song They Love to Sing and Play to the World are really great

There's a lot of energy and dynamics on the album. The following albums will be softer and softer and softer and this one can be considered their last truly great album, although it's without Woolly.

Extra compliments to John's guitarplay on this record. Just like XII it's very outstanding.
