4 stars Causa Sui's first two albums were odes to psychedelic hard/stoner rock. "Summer Sessions Vol. 2" is their forth release, the second of three in a row, in which this earnest dannish band plays psychedelic rock with a more progressive feeling. This is because "SSV2" is an instrumental album that sounds more like a disciplined jam where lengthy solos of guitar and saxophone over hard rock influenced riffs create a psychedelic, kraut-y and spacey atmosphere. The rhythm section is great with a busy bass and there are beautiful guitar and keyboard parts all over. The songs are rocking while the music mountains and valleys follow each other in a balanced way. Apart from the top musicianship, the production is excellent and you could call their sound "retro-rock". This is an album that I recommend to any progressive (hard) rock or stoner rock lover and - I dare guess - to friends of Hawkwind, Agitation Free, Omar Rodriguez Lopez or even Pelican. Causa Sui's three Summer Sessions volumes are also released in 3 CD and LP packages.
