5 stars This is one of my favorite Weather Report albums, and probably one of my first. I've been listening to them FOREVER, and I'm glad they got added to the archives.

Nubian Sundance - 7/10 - Nice and energetic jazz choral opening. Great tune, but not my favorite on the album

American Tango - 9/10 - GREAT Miroslav Vitous tune. I listen to THIS FIRST everytime I play this album. Definitely a great slow, ballad type tune.

Cucumber Slumber - 9/10 - This song has a KICK ASS groove, courtesy of Alphonso Johnson. He didn't actually "compose" the song. It's a jam built around a bass grove Alphonso came up with while working on the album. Definitely a great tune.

Mysterious Traveller - 10/10 - Probably the best track on the album. Great bebop like melody. Probably the best example of a composition that uses TWO drum sets at once. It's one of my favorite Wayne Shorter tunes. Blackthorn Rose - 8/10 - Great jazz ballad. Zawinul and Shorter provide some great classical lines and improv in this one.

Scarlet Woman - 8/10 - This tune is really odd. Really really odd. You probably won't like it at first. It has slow tribal drums in the background and synth and soprano sax providing melody.

Jungle Book - 8/10 - This is a pretty good Zawinul tune. This is probably one of his first "world music" style tunes. He plays A TON of instruments on this one I believe.

Final rating - 67/70 - 4.79 stars - Final (round up) 5 stars.
