This is the real Jethro Tull, never mind Stand Up and all that. There's a contradiction here too though, for the creations (Ian never wrote songs, he created structures) aren't fully formed, they're like children not yet walking, it all had some way to go to reach maturity. Yet in this album you can hear the chemistry of the band, Abrahams and Anderson may have ultimately fallen out, but their instruments were in love with each other, and it shone through. Bunker is well named as he beds in with solid drums that the music can sit on, ably supported by the steady Cornick on bass. Make no mistake about it, this was a good unit, but given their youth at the time, they tossed it all aside without realising what they were giving up. Sure, the fame and the money came to the survivor - Anderson. But despite that proviso, the lost potential is sad, listening to this, it makes you aware of what could have been but never was. This Was Jethro Tull.
