2 stars Although I usually do track-by-track reviews, in this case I will write my opinion about the album as a whole, since it is quite homogeneous and my comments apply throughout its duration. The first thing I noticed when 'Rock and Roll Fantasie' started is how good of a rhythm section they have! Steve Barraza is an excellent, colorful drummer, and Cliff Spiegel a bass player with very good aesthetic, who plays like a second guitar, filling the sound of the band. The production is uneven however, resulting in the rhythm section overshadowing the rest of the instruments, and especially the keys, which should be more powerful. Also, in my opinion the band falls more under Heavy Prog than Crossover. In conclusion, the songs have a very good average quality, and with a proper remastering they could sound significantly better. The album deserves 2.5 stars, but for ranking purposes gets 2, not 3.
