2 stars Potential is here, but only sporadically! This is my track-by-track opinion:

Atlantis: Clearly influenced by ELP in this first song of the record, with pompous baroque keys and dark atmosphere. Singer Joe DiFazio has no significant vocal skills (and neither did Greg Lake, for that matter). Relatively uninteresting song, doesn't leave anything important out.

Woodsman: Much closer to my taste! Here the Atlantis Philharmonic sound is close to the Moody Blues, with ethereal piano melodies and more melodic vocals, although DiFazio's voice is quite "dry". While beautiful to listen to, there's nothing earth-shattering going on, despite clocking in at over 7:30. The expected crescendo at the end doesn't save the day... Just good.

Death Man: Interesting introduction with keys and heavy guitar, again close to ELP, but even heavier, as if they put a dose of Uriah Heep in their music. It has good elements, but it doesn't give that something extra that would make it memorable.

Fly the Light: Intro full of keys, ending in a repetitive, quite catchy riff, with a childish mood, which reminds me of the late 60s pop/rock sound. The most special song so far, the only one I can repeat in my head after it's over. They did something good here!

My Friend: Delicate song with piano in the style of BJH but also of the Beatles, of course. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer anything special.

Atlas: Intro with a Heavy Metal riff reminiscent of proto-metal bands like Vanilla Fudge, completely contradicting to the previous song! The rest of the song, with constant changes of style and tempo, full of interesting guitar riffs and very good drumming performance by Royce Gibson, shows that Atlantis Philharmonic do well in Heavy Prog, and maybe it's a style that could serve them well if they continued their career, which didn't happen... However, this is probably the best song on the record! Make sure you give it a shot!

Rating: OK, the album certainly isn't bad, but there must be a hierarchy. With only two songs offering something special, the album doesn't deserve to enter the 3 stars club. I have to give it 2.
