4 stars Z Machine from UK done an excellent job on thier debut album from 2023 named Merging worlds.

They are a 5 piece instrumental jazz rock/prog rock band with lead sax and no keyboards, this quite intresting beacause in this type of music usually keyboards are present most of the time, but not here. But, we have flute, that is bring quite well in overall sound and is fiting perfect.

Z Machine has quite well developed pieces and well arranged with sax leading on, but aswell the guitar is solid from start to finish. Energetic pats, lots of really cool interplay between musicians, all members involved done a great job. King Crimson , early King Crimson is an obvious influence, but Z Machine take it to another level here, and is quite intresting to see such talented young bands playing in this manner today, so respect for that. I personnaly like it a lot, really, pieces like Bonus Eruptus, Big Old Hen or Synoceratus (with some amazing flute passages) are excellent examples of complex arrangements done with tast and good songwriting. Also some interludes are present.

There are are lots of tempo changes, intense playing all over that is giving to Merging worlds a special status today's jazz rock prog rock scene.

Like a lot the the art work aswell, easy 4 stars from me, recommended.
