4 stars I came into this one with skepticism, but wow! It's actually really good, imo. Much better than their poorly produced follow up. This album is not prog by any stretch of the imagination, but it goes hard, like really hard. It has a consistent energy that kept me engaged throughout the whole album which is difficult for this more straightforward metalcore/hardcore punk sound. May even surpass City of Evil/Nightmare, tbh.

That's not to say there is nothing original about this album, either. It was supposedly pretty groundbreaking for its time, with it being somewhere in between the developing melodic metalcore and traditional metallic hardcore scenes, along with a few other Orange County, CA bands, but this is getting into punk territory and doesn't belong on the progarchives discussions.

I recommend this if you're seeking a metalcore album!
