ANOTHER FINE TUNE YOU'VE GOT ME INTO

The second Gilgamesh album is even more sophisticated, gentle but also abstract. Unlike its predecessor, it's a fully instrumental effort. Lee(guitar) and Gowen (keyboards) remained on board, while the famous Hopper and less known Tomkins emerge in the rhythm section. If you're looking for demanding fusion-inspired Canterbury album, then this is the right venue to stop at. Playing is refined, warm (unlike some other fusion records) but compositions lack cohesion and aren't that memorable in comparison to most other Canterbury output and even Gilgamesh' first album. I feel that these guys would have been (as very few from the progressive rock scene) competent to record a straightforward jazz album since there is a lot of atmosphere, freedom and nuance in their playing. One of the non-essential nevertheless still interesting Canterbury outputs.
