4 stars this is zappa's first live album. it's amazing how great the sound quality is and the tightness of the musicians on songs that were never released from the studio (something zappa did frequently...roxy, l.a., bongo fury). this album surpasses the first and shocks initially, but once you hear the music enough and understand why zappa chose the words he did (namely in the song brown shoes don't make, which became much less vulgar after i learned the intention). one might complain about the sometimes goofy songs zappa chooses to include in his repertoire (50s sounding songs), but i truly enjoy them quite a bit. they are very catchy and amusing and usually have some sort of satirical merit.

highlights of this album: duke trilogy(tracks 2, 3, 4) vegetable trilogy (tracks 5, 6, 7) brown shoes don't make it (it's like a song with ADD, it's amazing how frequently the song changes). america drinks and goes home (i like when he mentions peanut butter and jelly sandwiches during his thank yous).
