5 stars An absolute reference for the Canterbury sound, and a watershed in Soft Machine's discography, where they decidedly abandon the psychedelic discourse to delve into jazzy rock terrain, heavily influenced by works like Bitches Brew by Miles Davis.

It is noted for good that the compositional and instrumental weight is distributed in a balanced way among the members of the band, this being the last time that Wyatt was allowed to sing, triggering his departure on the next album.

Also it should be noted that for the first time a double album contains a single song on each side of the LPs, a very wise decision since it enabled the band to expand their music without time limitations. There isn't much to contribute from what has already been said about this album, only that it is a must-listen album and a benchmark in any discography, regardless of the musical style in question.
