4 stars Review #115!

'In The Wake of Poseidon' is a criminally underrated album. Yes, it has a similar structure to the previous album, but Fripp and the band experimented with many more sounds on this album. And "In the Court" doesn't have an instrumental, does it(although 'Moonchild' is basically one)? The album starts with 'Peace - A Beginning'. This is a nice a capella tune by Greg Lake. It is very short as well. It is only one minute long. 'Pictures of A City' sounds kind of like '21st Century Schizoid Man' but adds a nice jazzy element to the sound. The horns sell this. I think the lyrics are a little better. It is pretty funky and groovy, I think more so than "Schizoid". Less progressive and a little more mood-focused. Next is 'Cadence and Cascade'. This is like nothing King Crimson ever released. (OK, maybe a little like the stuff on 'Lizard'). But certainly not like "In The Court". Jazzy, soft, pretty, beautiful, lilting, all of the above. There is a beautiful flute solo in the middle. The title track sounds a lot like 'Epitaph'. Like way too much. But all the same, is beautiful and powerful. The large instrumental part in the middle is beautiful. 'Peace - A Theme' has some pretty guitar and before you know is over. 'Cat Food' is just a very fun funky song. It was what got me into this album. The weird piano sounds great. After the vocals are gone, the instrumental section comes in, making the song sound very interesting and, well, King Crimson-y. 'The Devil's Triangle' takes an annoyingly long time to build up, but is a pretty interesting instrumental. Close to the end, it gets really crazy. 'Peace - An End' acts as the beautiful closer to this wonderful album. Through its copycat nature and great songs, this is a great album for any fan of King Crimson. You too can get past the similarities with 'In The Court of The Crimson King' like me. Prog on.
