JOYRIDE

Somehow I stumbled upon this record. That cover is colourful and trippy, isn't it? So that was the reason to give this a listen. This is a krautrock album, meaning it's a direct product of German late 60's post-war movement. On this record you will hear some wild, raw and experimental sounds and melodies, very psychedelic in nature, for nearly 35 minutes. The sound quality is not very good, as expected, due to poor recording. The emphasis on extended and ecstatic instrumental epics is a krautrock trademark and it is present. I think there is little or no structure in the music (not always), it feels improvisational (especially longer pieces). The shorter ones seem thought out in terms of composition. I wouldn't call the music on here a 'joyride', but it does have some nice melodies, for example flute moments, celesta playing on Childsong, gentle guitar here and there. From the bunch of tracks presented, Childsong seems the weirdest, because of children replicas, talks (for most of the time) with some celesta to support; in the end you can hear a bird chirping.

All in all, this was a good experience. I don't really think this album is bad, it's just not everyone's cup of tea.
