3 stars In 2017 KING GIZZARD release five studio albums and my least favourite of those is "Gumboot Soup" the final release just before the end of that year of left overs from the previous four albums. So a mixed bag of styles really. "Sketches Of Brunswick East" is the lightest recording they did that year getting help from Alex Brettin a multi-instrumentalist who is the MILD HIGH CLUB.

I would rate this slightly ahead of "Gumboot Soup" and for me it's non-essential but I have trouble with this band when they go mellow like in 2015 with "Quarters!" and "Paper Mache Dream Balloon". The latter being the only one of the three mellow ones that I really like and the only 4 star record of those.

This album is very uniform which I like of jazzy, mellow music with plenty of flute. The title track is in three parts opening and closing the album plus the middle track giving even more continuity to this album. I do like those catchy, short numbers. There's a couple of songs that I really don't like with "Tezuta" being the better of the two and the other being "The Spider And Me" with the birds chirping and vocals helping out.

"D-Day" at least has more depth to it although it changes after a minute to a lighter sound, but before that I really like the bass and drums. Another good one is "Cranes, Planes, Migrains" with the energy and punchy sounds. I like that bass. "The Book" is a lot of fun and the longest by far at 5 minutes. "Rolling Stoned" is a pretty good instrumental but light of course with flute helping out.

"Murder Of The Universe" is my third favourite of 2017 with "Polygondwanaland" and "Flying Microtonal Banana" being their absolute best of all they've done up to this year of 2017.
