5 stars Review #17!

'Animals' is a very gritty, daring album, tackling injustice in 70's English society and government. Referencing and continuing (?) Orwell's 'Animal Farm', Roger Waters covers accounts in the lives of three animals: dogs, pigs, and sheep. A two-part folk jingle bookends the main three songs, starting with the seventeen-minute 'Dogs', featuring an insane solo from guitarist Gilmour. On the flipside is 'Pigs(Three Different Ones)', an eleven-minute track which sounds like a bunch of fat-shaming, but when you dive deeper, you find its secrets. Pigs fades into 'Sheep', a classic progressive rock jam about the gullible middle class and being controlled by a higher power. 'Pigs On the Wing 2' beautifully closes the album, providing a hopeful ending to a dark, sad record.
