2 stars Duke reached his first commercial hit on the previous album and it may have urged him to keep releasing frequent albums until the end of the 70's. By 1978, the last traces of his glorious days of fusion are melting away, so the music is rooted in funk, jazz-funk or Latin funk. The material has its quality and is far from a sell-out but it lacks being more memorable. "Dukey stick" is funking hard and is eccentric but lacks hooks. Even the three short instrumentals sound generic and safe. My favourite is the first and last track due to their vibrant beats, Chancler showing one of his great rhythmic moments on the "Future". At that time, Duke was still looking for perfect ingredients for a 100% funk album.
