COYOTE

I am probably one of the few Kayo Dot fans that prefers the Blue Lambency Downward stuff over the old Kayo Dot/motW stuff. I'm not saying Toby Driver doesn't mix it up a bit, I see a different quality in all of his albums, but Blue Lambency Downward was my fav. With that said, I expect to see a lot of Kayo Dot fans who worshiped Choirs of the Eye to look down upon this album, for it sounds a lot like BLD.

I give this 4 stars because the album has excellent structure, and they apply a dark, orchestral theme (similar to BLD) very well to all of their tracks. Their experimentation and random notes and time signature changes are hard to get used to, but when you do, this music is just downright awesome. Favorite track is the second track which made me realize what an awesome and underrated drummer David Bodie is (I think he's still the drummer, but correct me if I'm wrong).

Overall, it's not nearly the best album, I think all Kayo Dot listeners would agree, but it's.... decent. I would probably give it 3.5, but I give 4 stars because I have the feeling a lot of fans will frown upon this release.
