5 stars Now this is quite a surprise. When I saw that this band was classified under "Tech/Extreme Prog Metal", I was a little bit hesitant to check this album out. In retrospect, now I find myself wondering why it's garnered that kind of categorization on here in the first place. It seems more suited to "plain old" Progressive Metal, if you ask me. Not to say that this is any ordinary old progressive metal album by any means.

Silly and pointless genre categorizations aside, this is one hell of an exciting album. I'm definitely going to be keeping my eye on this band in the future. Tall Poppy Syndrome showcases an exceptional amount of potential for this up and coming band. Each track has a personality of its own that grabs hold of the listener and demands full attention in ways most metal albums these days fail to do. I'm going to have to agree with reviewer "The_T" in that Riverside's "Anno Domini" is the only other progressive metal album of 2009 to come close to the caliber of Tall Poppy Syndrome. I just wish I'd found out about this band sooner.
