4 stars 1966 was the year when great music and albums started, with Bob Dylan releasing "Blonde on Blonde", The Beatles releasing "Revomver" and my favourite ones, The Beach Boys releasing the most important album of all time "Pet Sounds", but people overlook the beginning of one of music's most creative minds, Frank Zappa, so when I think of those albums I also think of Frank Zappa.

This album has a very 60's production, in fact I think it sounds like a heavier, rocking "Pet Sounds" but even more quirky and not a sad album at all, in 1966's standards it sounds insane.

Actually I think this is the most normal of the whole Zappa catalog, mixing some Wall of Sound, with doo- wop, psychedelia, classical, avant-garde and obviously rock music, I think this is the only starting point to Frank Zappa's discography.

Among the things I like about the record are his trademark marimba use and quirky instruments lime kazoos (?), but never sounding to gimmicky, they even sound mystical at times and that is super awkward but awesome at the sametime, the downside of the record is that it is pretty long for that time, so there is some filler.

I don't know is this is Zappa's best record, but it is very solid and has some kinda historic value, a must listen despite its flaws.
