5 stars Well, 7 years after their last (live-)output in 2003 we finally got a new KARNATAKA studio-album. And...let me say: this is a really stunning one. KARNATAKA is back again with a beat of the drum.

I pre-ordered the limited edition of the CD some month ago to complete my KARNATAKA collection. I doesn't expect too much at this point of time, especially after the long break and all the new band-members. But, from first listening this album blews me away.

The album begins with 2 instrumental tracks. The first one is only a short silent pipe-solo presented by special-guest musician Troy Donockley (well known for his great performances for IONA,MOSTLY AUTUMN, NIGHTWISH and MAGENTA). This guy is indeed one of the few pipers in the world who can play pipes in such an emotional way that it doesn't sucks after a while...This is very fine art ! A good choice. But now, don't expect too much folk-elements on this CD. Only some few pipe-parts are well placed on it here and there very decent.

The second instrumental track is nearly 9 min. long and shows very quick how good the new members are integrated into the band. Keyboard- and guitarparts are dominating on a very fine way.

From track 3 to the end of the CD all the songs are now performed by new vocalist Lisa Fury. She has a fine, clear and decent voice. Never nerving and always present. All songs are nearly on the same high level, so your personal taste decides which one is better or not. The songs are full of great guitar-parts & solos. 3 of the songs are breaking the 10 min. barrier. My personal favorite is the last and longest song on the CD. The 14 min. long title-track "The Gathering Light" is such a catchy tune, that you can't forget the melodies after the first listening. It's the cream topping at the end of this CD.

If you like very melodic rock-music with a little prog-touch, than buy this stunning CD and you won't be disappointed.

5 STARS for this phantastic output.
