"Sleep Dirt" was released in 1979 but recorded between 1974 and 1976 and it was originally released as "Hot Rats III" (being "Waka/Jawaka" the second part of the unofficial trilogy"); even when this record is completely (or mainly, depending on the version you're hearing) instrumental, the tracklist offers a very different musical style: yes, it is highly charged with jazz and ZAPPA's flirting with classical music, but in general terms, the album is much darker and calm (maybe an adjective that I would use would be discrete) than the first two albums of this trilogy.

Most of the time I listen to this record in its instrumental version, but sometimes I enjoy listening to the vocal version and I have to say that I like them both very much, the voice of Thana HARRIS feels really accurate to the album, probably the lyrics are less interesting than I would expect but I've never been very demanding with the lyric content of an album. This is probably the cool thing about this record: you can pick between the two options whichever you like more.
