5 stars Review #11: In the Land of Grey and Pink

If I had to describe this album in a few words it would be: An adventure after the greatest musical composition of the Canterbury scene of all time and also one of the best albums ever.

In the Land of Grey and Pink, Caravan's third album, released in 1971, offers us great and emblematic lyrics, catchy melodies, and a super interesting Medley ("Nine Foot Underground") with quite captivating and harmonious rhythmic and other changes.

I often listen to this album as if it were a song, because every song is so exciting and catchy, to the point that you can't stop singing along to tunes like "Golf Girl" or "Love to Love You (and Tonight Pigs Will Fly)".

Maybe, at first listen, you might not like or care for the album, or you just don't find it exciting without identifying any melody that grabs you as in other works. But, I must admit, I too found the lyrics and songs not so appealing, and the reality is, it's an album that you have to listen to 2 or 3 times to get the sweet and witty flavour that Caravan implements throughout the masterpiece.

My favourite song is "Golf Girl". Simple lyrics, a soft and cosy melody to start the album off calmly, and bonus points for Richard Sinclair's friendly and distinctive voice.

Golf Girl: 5/5

Winter Wine: 4/5

Love to Love You (and Tonight Pigs Will Fly): 4.5/5

In the Land of Grey and Pink: 4/5

Nine Feet Underground: 5/5

9/10, 5 stars for the greatest Canterbury creation of all time and an album that accompanies us in every situation in an optimistic and epic way.
