4 stars The second effort of the composer and multi-instrumentalist from Lugo (Spain) Javier Miranda, revises and refines many of the ideas raised in his first album," Mirror Games ", and does so from a more coherent stylistic perception and a solid sound design. "Strange Imperfection" is, despite the title, a perfectly planned, almost mathematical work, in a structure that combines mysterious ambient passages with joyful compositions driven by gripping melodies and rhythms and interludes of a minimalist and experimental concept without ever denying its character. harmonic, offering the listener a rich atmosphere of varied timbres and floating soundscapes of a certain epicity. The rhythm sections evolve and display craftsmanship without ever becoming a distraction, and the depth of the sound field takes the listener to an uncertain destination without quite knowing how it got there. Javier Miranda is a great guide and his passion for music in different formats, from progressive rock to ambient (and his consequent bastard sons), comes naturally here. The deliberately slow thematic movements, the energetic symphonic impulses, the emergent sequences and the almost imperceptible arrangements, work like perfectly oiled gears. The different sound climates advance in a "continuum", as in "Mirror Games" (which already seems to be the "Miranda's trademark"), like a "musical road movie", creating a conceptual flow that will take you to a magic carpet of branching colors and cinematic hedonism. For me, the best phase of this journey is nearing the end with "State of Mind," a creative garden of apparent simplicity and devastating resolution. "
