Heart of the Matter
4 stars This version of "Seven Seas of Rhye", the one with vocals added, was the closing track for "Queen II".

Plenty to enjoy here, really: great rocking performance, with the rythm seccion on fire, and head diving into a full blown ride. Fantastically tasty overdubs by May on the electric guitar, and the vocals..., well, let's say that they don't leave you craving for nothing. Freddie's vocals have all the punch that we learned to expect from him, and the harmonies go off in you face as it's supposed to happen.

"See What a Fool I've Been", on the flip side, sounds pretty much like a blues-rock mid-tempo warming workout for the band, with a bit of echo added to the voice. The kind of take that never make it to the proper album.
