![]() "The kids are alright" by the Who is a compilation which includes several pieces from the brilliant documentary-movie about their career, that was released worldwide in 1979. The songs are not the original studio versions and to be honest for a compilation format this is absolutely a positive fact: what's the point in having the studio versions once again? I'm referring to greatest hits like the recent "Greatest hit (and 21 other pretty cool tracks)" by Dream Theater for instance.
This compilation is a great document about Who's live shows from 1965 to 1978, and it contains the most convincing live performance that I ever listened to, really, which is "Won't get fooled again" recorded in Shepperton 1978, absolutely a thunder in your own living room, not to mention the legendary "A quick one while he's away" from the Rolling Stones' R n R Circus show and the splendid "Baba O' Riley" once again from Shepperton 1978. Moreover the cd also contains a song not featured in the movie : "My Wife", written and sang by John Enwtistle; another very powerful performance, just like Roger Daltrey's on "Young Man Blues", in which he shows his too much underrated vocal capabilities, here Robert Plant's got nothing on him, for sure. In the end not a truly progressive album, but what's wrong in adding "The kids are alright" to your album collection, since it's awesome? My rating is 4 stars.
