4 stars 1. Thick as a Brick - Part 1 and 2. Thick as a Brick - Part 2 are part of one of the two most progressive albums by JETHRO TULL. These two major pieces feature the entire progressive cohort, blending symphonic prog with velvety, charming keyboards, and occasional breaks, like throwing grain to prog-hungry hens... Blending this symphony with folk-like tunes, troubadour airs, the magic of sailors returning to port, classical intonations with long arpeggios swelling the solemn rhythm of Ian's suave voice, who knows how to use his flute sparingly to allow the Charisma tune, so dear to GENESIS, to captivate the listener's ears.

At the time of writing this review, the least I've seen is the familiar sound that oozes and its unique air, merging classical with folk and heavy music... ahead of its time, that's all. The most I've seen is the rest, namely two great pieces with a grandiloquent, avant-garde inspiration for the moment; the flute brought in for bucolic spaces, John's keyboards distilling warm sounds with heavy Hammond drums, the highlight of this album. Also the most I've seen is the metronomic drums that bring together the progressive, almost jammy moments. Especially of course, Martin's maddening electric guitar, which was present as much solo as rhythmically, injecting sharp notes at times, suave at others, and hilarious for the rest, if there are any left. The biggest draw for me, as a huge Hammond fan, is rediscovering the bucolic sounds of this instrument through its twists and turns and comparing it to Tony of GENESIS, two great masters of this divine organ. The end result is to lose oneself in this unique progressive universe with its complex derivations and peregrinations that made one say that Ian was possessed by the demon of music. A two-track album, bordering on the GENESIS concept album, which would forever revolutionize the prog movement.
