3 stars Resurrected at the end of the 90s from a soundtrack composed for a 1983 movie and including things that (i have read it) weren't in the movie. Possibly, the material was once discarded. It's not bad. After some releases made at home by the father and son combo that TD turned into, at least here we have a reprint from one of the old lineups.

I have to say that sometimes it sounds more like a VANGELIS album than a Tangerine Dream's (which I don't think is a bad thing at all). "Voices From A Common Land" seems taken from "China". The percussion on "The Challenger's Arrival" reminds me to Pink Floyd's "Obscured By Clouds", at least in the first half. The second half is quite psychedelic. The closer "Heritage Survival" is similar to what Peter BARDENS was doing at the end of the 80s.

There are elements which appear extraneous to the "regular" Tangerine Dream, starting with the Latin choir of "Puer Natus Est Nobis". "The Silver Seal" is unusually dark, it sounds like the Russian SENMUTH (who will sound that way ten years after). "Arx Allemande" is also unusual: a sort of baroque canon in an electronic format where the artists show that they can play complex partitures.

There are also tracks more in line with the usual TD style, like "The Night In Romania", "Sign In The Dark" is a quick return to the Virgin period, "Weird Village" goes even more far, to their Pink Period. I think many TD fans would have loved hearing them playing again the kind of things that they did on Zeit as well as "Supernatural Accomplice". "Parallel Worlds"may come from the Virgin period, with sounds typical of the late 70s TD.

Anyway, this is one of the few TD soundtracks which have something interesting and that can be listened as to a real studio album, probably because it has been produced about 15 years after and integrated with some additional material.

A good album.
