4 stars The proverb "First solo album is the best one" that holds for Genesis members' Rutherford, Hackett and Banks can be applied to Collins and Phillips, too.

The lyricism, innocence and dreamy atmosphere characterizes the first album by Anthony Phillips, a former member of Genesis.

Phillips proves to be a mature composer, a good guitar/keyboard player and a good arranger as well, staying in touch with progressive rock although disappering from ears and eyes.

Classical music and acoustic music are two main influences on this album, that can be very remotely compared to Hackett's first solo album.

Quality singing by Collins harmony vocals on track 2 and delicate acoustic/electric guitar in the background.

"Henry - Portraits from Tudor Times" belongs to the most known Philips classical music pieces based on acoustic guitars. However, oboe and strings can also be heard on this dynamic track and the final chorus with vocals and organ sounds so classy and Genesis-influened.

Collins retuns back to the mic in "God if I saw her now" and holds a duet with a female voice. Another highlight is a flute and delicate elaborate passages.

The title track is a recommended classical music suite with a Genesis spirit enriched by oboes and cellos. Especially electric guitar parts sound so much Genesis-like.

"Collections" is a very haunting track with a heart-broken Philips voice accompanied unusually by piano and flute. More of such taste would appear on the next album.

The last track has beautiful symphonic synths and a few Banksian piano chords. This track is a decent end to this great and highly recommended album.

A must for any Genesis fan!
