Overview

Marillion - Something else is a DVD which came free with online orders of Marillion's 2007 release Somewhere Else, and is made up of three live tracks performed at the 2007 Marillion weekend. Incredibly well performed and chosen, these three tracks are some of the best from this great album.

Last Century For Man This is a great track, and the live performance is even better. Opening with its incredibly gentle riff, this track was excellently performed.

4 out of 5 for the track.

4.5 out of 5 for the performance.

The Wound

Another great track, also performed excellently on this live set. Fantastic lighting was used, and created an intense atmosphere for this performance.

4.5 out of 5 for the track.

5 out of 5 for the performance.

Thankyou Whoever You Are

One of my favourite tracks from this album, the vocal reproduction is absolutely amazing - The band was clearly on fire when they played this track. The bass line was also particularly excellent, as was Steve Hogarth's vibrato. The best live performance, and indeed, the best track on this DVD.

5 out of 5 for the track.

Final thoughts:

A great freebie, but not worth paying any extra to get. One mistake about this disc was its audio output - The maximum output this DVD supports is 2.0 Stereo, which is quite a dissapointment for audiophiles, or people with sound systems.

One other noticable annoyance is the fact that this DVD is only produced in NTSC - Not a problem if you live in an NTSC region, but as an Australian, I live on PAL, and the colors did appear severely washed out. Another visual error is the scan lines - Visible at all times during playback, this becomes quite irritating whilst viewing. Once again, this may have been due to my PAL player and the DVD's NTSC encoding.

A great freebie, Something Else recieves 3 stars, and only not 4 due to its lack of PAL option, and 2.0 only audio output support, and (now) rarity.

3 Out of 5 overall - NOT an Average

Thanks, and keep proggin' -Joel
