LEFTOVERTURE

Here's an opinion: Leftoverture is the only album worth five stars. Period. This conclusion was not drawn by comparing Kansas with superb British Prog. Rock bands, nor admiring it's hard American style in contrast to the symphonic components within. Rather, I listen for the dramatic enterprise that actually exists. In reviews here, we have heard excellent remarks pertaining to the context of this album. I'll argue that context is the upholding feature of this work as... a masterpiece. Surely, you can hear influences in Kansas' music from a few Prog. Rock bands, and also of a bluesy American punch rock. What astonishes me is that Kansas, all though there was scarcely anything new possible, at least made music that actually rocked, that was actually intricate, that was actually emotional, and was actually tightly arranged and played, all at the same time, on two sides... Why must it be Progressive or original for that matter? It is just plain good. Why must it be anything? A bias can ruin your perception, and perhaps I am guilty... " But I'm not biased though, I'm Canadian! And I play hockey, so if you have a problem we'll fight about it........"
