4.5: Amazing album by dream theater, the eighth by them and also the concept and the music make
references to the number 8 in various ways. However this is not the transcendental about of this
one, is the quality in music and composition in overall of the album. And also I can recommended to
any prog listener, because it is the most symphonic, eclectic album I have heard from them, however
they make it so digestible, that sometimes it feels like prog pop, but nothing important. The first
seven songs talks about several topics, the alcoholism problems, the ungrateful fans that are not
satisfied, the attack to the twin towers incident, among others, also it incorporates a part of
another of their classic songs for the first song. At the end, the masterpiece song of the album,
octavarium is a 23 minute songs, that as far as I can I listen of DM, is the best they have done, it
has a wonderful lyric, talking about past classic of prog and other song that have influenced them,
but how they always tries to print their own style. Musically, is the best composition they have
made, it has an intro like Shine On You Crazy Diamond song, while during the song, keyboard passages
and astonished riffs are presented. It surprised me because the average score it has in prog
archives, but I began to hear the octavarium song and instantly I began to hear the rest of the
album, and here I am, loving it. A very good album, that is almost perfect, but that shows the
magnificent composition skills of the band in Octavarium song, but also other songs maintain the DM
style of the past albums, I think is an album that anyone must to hear.
