5 stars Symbolic acts so vivid...

One of Death's best albums. And this is most certainly a terrific death metal release, but is it prog? It is, and by far. The technicality is stunning, the riffs are amazing, and it is all so furious and pounding. Each song has skillfully written lyrics and a punch so shattering as to crack holes in your ears.

The riff of the opening track Symbolic, is well... symbolic of the entire album. So ripping and shredding. THIS is death prog, and it wants to consume you! The drumming is so gut blasting I'd say it could cause irregular bowel movements. This is part of the reason why Gene Hoglan is my all time favorite drummer. He is quite unearthly.

Each song is not very diverse, but sometimes a calm (for death) passage will appear with lilting melodic guitar. Thick and violent. The songs ooze monstrous blood. And Chuck has one of the best Death vocals I have heard. So sharp and biting. I love this album.

My Final Rating is 5/5.
